The book seems to be just a quick walk-through of the manuals, and if you consider that all of the reviewed products have pretty good help and FAQ sections, the need for such book decreases even more. I can hardly name anyone to whom I would recommend this book.

I notice I am posting more about Salon blogs while traveling. Probably a neighborhood thing. It's easy for me to check out other Salon blogs and I now have some ongoing conversations, both in public and back channel with other Salon bloggers. I'd say there is a rough sketch of a community in there somewhere (a somewhat sex-obsessed community — the best kind).

Re: Viva Hate! Usually I don't stoop to this level, but it's been a rough day and I'm in the mood: This Self-Righteous Prat has decided that my little corner of blogspace is one of his examples of Bad Weblogs on Salon. I'm seventh from the top. Chances are, my fellow Salon bloggers, yours may be as well. [She's Actual Size, Nationwide, Believe]

While I don't share some writers' obssesion with exposing Sullivan, I haven't hesitated to expose his errors and I've expressed doubt about his integrity. He is actually no worse in that respect than David Horowitz or William Safire or Bill Kristol or any of the other wingers whose lies I've felt obliged to correct occasionally. His distortions are often awful, but they're also rather typical of current debating tactics at his end of the spectrum. I expect that Salon's editors will hold him to a higher standard than Sullivan requires of himself on his own Web site, and that Salon's readers will hold him accountable, too. It's amusing that Conason's blog/journal is filed (in the URL) under "bush," a reference I suppose to the Bush-goring graphic it launched with and the premise that Joe will bedevil W. through the journal. By the same token I could see the Times filing Krugman's column that way.
