I'm experimenting with the various forms of solicitations available to bloggers to seek support from their readers. I haven't put anything on the home page yet (except for the Amazon link to my Dreamweaver book that's been there for months). For now I'm just parking the various badges and come-on's in a story called Support Your Local Pirate Radio.

One question: I have an Amazon wishlist. Is there any easy or established way to link to it? I guess I need to look at some examples. Amazon didn't seem to have a button generator for that kind of thing.

The fact that that metalinker stuff never worked and was causing error messages in IE6/Win browsers like a piece of toilet paper stuck to my shoe, and the fact that I still haven't been able to get a TrackBack ping-based metablog working, or RSS monkey installed, for that matter.

I'm not perfect, and I think that makes me a better explainer of this stuff than someone who groks it all like a genius. I make the mistakes other people are going to make, but I notice them and solve them (or have the solution handed to me by readers) and document that as well. It helps me and it may help other people avoid these same mistakes or recover from them more quickly, that is once I solve them myself.

Andrew Bayer pointed out that he was getting this message when trying to load RFB in IE 6 for Windows:

It turns out the culprit was my half-assed attempted to install ThinkBlank's metalinker code into this page. In so doing, I apparently included an extra closing parenthesis (that's what happens when you cut and paste code without any idea about how it works or what it's supposed to say).

I've cut the offending extra parenthesis, which I hope will deal with the error, though I'll remove the code entirely if it continues to give people problems, especially as it's never worked they way it was supposed to (due again, no doubt, to my flawed installation).

It appears that restarting Radio fixed the problem, whatever it was. Probably some overnight bug thang.

I was trying to post an entry about a Javascript error on the RFB home page when instead of Radio successfully posting the entry and returning the usual desktop weblog homepage, the ordinary text box was replaced with this error message:

[Macro error: Can't evaluate the expression because the name "" hasn't been defined.]

If this entry posts successfully, then the problem has something to do with the text of the entry I was trying to post.

If I get the error again, then you won't see this (at least not right away), and I'll have to figure out what the heck is going on.
