Today's quality tour

Salon Blog Quality Tour for You.     -  Marcus O'Riley

And we're back at the job of searching out the best bits from Salon's Blogs for you. Some folks have written to say that Marcus is ignoring many of the best things on Salon, so it might be a good time to note that we try to stay away from the top of the pops, and spotlight things you might not see otherwise. Simple enough?

Salon Babies: Good start for Saracen‰s Radio Weblog, who attempts the decidedly uncool task of inserting Dale Carnegie into the 21st century.

Hate Central drops a personal POV on ë8 Mile‰ and the great Eminem.

O‰Pesky the Rat does about as good a job of pulling together the topics of Iraqi invasion, the stock market, and feline self-interest as anyone could hope for.

The always cheerful Necrolicious provides us with a little Afghan story. I‰m always a sucker for a good fableá

Secular Blasphemy provides a good list of resources for following current events in the Isreali/Palestenian conflict from an international viewpoint.

Salon Blog Death Watch: Wiken‰s Eclectic Time Waster. Born: August 5,2002,  Died: September 2, 2002. Unlike many of the dead blogs, WETW did seem to try and make a go of it, although his increasingly desperate hopes of Salon-Intervention seems to have sealed his fate. That and the end of the thirty day free trial. Typical entry from the next to last post: My time on the trial version is rapidly running out. Down to six more days. I have noticed that number of hits to this site depend greatly on the time of day that updates are made. Late evening is like pissing in the wind; but posting seems to always work. Very early morning catches attention in the recent updatesአDamn! If he had just paid his forty bucks! He almost had it figured outá

Well, then, Goodnight from Marcus, your guide to Salon Quality.

SweetRoxy215: This is brilliant.... (Blogosphere)
RFB InfoArch: Information architecture (IA) is just a fancy term for organizational structure. Here are some things on my RFB IA to do list: soonly 1. Reorg home page 2. Tweak categories eventually 3. full site inventory 4. sitemap 5. review navigation 6. review nomenclature 7. search templates 8. external connections TO ADD... (Editorial)
.htaccess: What do you need? I have chops, but no BBQ.... (Editorial)
Logos, drafts, syndication, and privacy: filch, I'd love to see your futurismistic logo ideas and see if Liza and you can get any synergy going. I noticed that draft. Are you still going to flesh it out? By QuickPost, you guys are talking about the TypePad bookmarklet? I didn't realize it could post to MT blogs... (Editorial)
Posting drafts: Re Blogistan Editorial: ARGGH!: i usually use quickposts to create drafts that i then work out into full posts. is there any reason why i cannot keep a draft in RFB? No, there is nothing preventing you except that by default new posts are set to Publish unless you override and... (Editorial)
Catching up: First of all, I think I will turn on comments by default after all, since there's no reason not to use that system for followups in the future Re Liza's questions (Blogistan Editorial: When it rains it pours): 1. When I make new sites I always start anew with logos. It... (Editorial)
More on Logo/Templates: Speaking as someone with lots of experience with Futurism I like the idea of a logo and the style of the site to be presented in such a fashion. In fact I have a wonderful idea for an inspiration. I'll see if I can dig it up.... (Editorial)
Drafts: I have posted a draft and had no problems. But what I have found with MT is that QuickPosts sometimes render drafts as full posts. I think if you only post drafts from within the main admin screen you won't have this issue.... (Editorial)
2 Points on Syndication: There is a syndication feed for the editorial board. You can find it here. Any luck on setting this editorial log behind a password Xian? Xian if you could I'd prefer the attribution be dropped from the feed you made for me the other day. The feed is going to be... (Editorial)
ARGGH!: i usually use quickposts to create drafts that i then work out into full posts. is there any reason why i cannot keep a draft in RFB? it posted my draft which i had to delete and thusly i had to proceed to rebuilding the whole site. ugh! i had no... (Editorial)
Email Notification?: Since we do not have an RSS feed for this blog, should we set up email notification for it?... (Editorial)
The flight from television: Stirling Newberry, commenting under the post below (How has blogging changed your life?), shares a fascinating point: ...people like themselves more when they have become content producers, rather than merely consumers. The crinkly interaction of between peers - in the sense that everyone is a producer and consumer - opens whole... (Weblog Concepts)
