Xtra! Xtra! Read all about it...

So I'm scrolling down the Salon main page (just renewed my Premium subscription - and why haven't you? Hmmm...?) when I see something a little different:

.Salon Blogs

Scott Rosenberg Wall Street Journal's $200,000-a-year spammer
Plus: "Xtreme" blogging! [The Raven]
Start your own blog | Recently updated blogs

Ain't that something — Scott's come through with the promise of front page space for other Salon blogs. And a great choice to give the publicity to as well, I might add. The Raven is my first must-read ANYTHING these days. Well, except for Celtics stuff, but that doesn't count.

Blogging from New Orleans: My friends Steve and Elizabeth are blogging the reconstruction of New Orleans from within the city: Inside the Bowl. We stay with them when we go to Jazz Fest (nearly every year), and we were very worried about them when the flood and hurricane hit. They evacuated successfully and their house... (Storytelling)

Dealing with duplicate pings: Weblogs often generate multiple trackback pings to the same entry. This is usually because a timeout in the initial ping caused the process to fail to acknowledge, so the sending weblog tries again next time the user updates the entry. To avoid sending out duplicate pings, if you get an error... (Editorial)
Help with comment permalinks: OK, I wanted the comments block on the home page to link to recent comments "filchyboy on Is linking like sex" etc. The problem is that the comment links just go to the entry and don't scroll down automatically to the specific comment's permalink. I was poking around the templates documentation... (Editorial)
Extreme customization: Anyone who's worked with UserTalk, Frontier, Manila, or Radio knows that there's a lot of impressive power packed into these tools and also a lot of idiosyncrasies. The software is ideological in the sense that it reflects the choices and preferences and decisions of mainly one programmer and software architect, Dave... (Products)
Overexamined life?: Scott Simon on NPR this morning describes blogging as a type of diary; he says while it may be right that an unexamined life is not worth living, an overexamined life is not worth reading. (Granted, he's been reading posts by a blogger extolling the virtues of eating toast...) I disagree... (Blogosphere)
