Which is worse, rape or murder?

Scot Hacker has posed a provocative thought-experiment to his readers who defend video games that depict killing. In his post entitled Just Pretending he asks which is worse, rape or murder. Then he asks whether it would be OK for children to play rape games.

This has spawned an active discussion, at the birdhouse and elsewhere, including a long debate in LiveJournalspace.

Where do you come down on this?

Rape is most definately worse. Rape mentally messes with you, and a lot of times victims know the attacker. Which makes day to day life untolerable, especially if you see the rapist. Most of the time you trust the person and it stabs you in the back with a swirl of confusion and you feel dirty or as if it was your fault. It's as if living a nightmare or a living hell as some would call it. At least if you were murdered all of your emotions would be rendered dead. Some people recover from such incidents, and others live with it in shame and don't even tell their family or friends. Rape is a very serious and scary situation.

Death is the worst thing that can ever happen to a person in this world. When a person dies he/she can never ever again get together with his/her family or mingle with the society. This is just a simple definition of death but when it comes to murder it is worse. Not only do the victim’s family feel sad about his/her death but also the fact that the victim did not die naturally but was killed by someone stays with for their remaining lifetime. While in the case of rape, a victim may get hurt emotionally which cannot be stated as good but there still is a fact that he/she still has his/her life. The victim still has a chance to remodel their life and strive with determination for a good future. For those who don’t accept the fact that a raped person can start a new life leaving the incident in the past, Opera Winfrey is a very good example. Even though something bad occurred in her life she didn’t give up but went forward with determination for a good future and now we can all see that she has accomplished her goal.
