"Are you going to do any blogging when you're here?" my friend S asked me. I told him probably not. Maybe I'll upload some digital pix from around town or from the crowds (or stage shots) at Fest.
But I did have to get online to send a file I had been unable to send last night, and sure enough I had to check out BoingBoing, which led me to read about the TypePad news at the Guardian and then Mena's discussion of milestones at the Six Log.
Next I wanted to see how the right-wing blogosphere was spinning the news from southern Iraq (ignoring it as far as I can tell), and the next thing you know I'm over at BuzzMachine catching up on the news about Sina Motallebi. And so on.
But the air feels different here in New Orleans, and I slept over ten hours last night, and works seems far away, and I keep letting out these deep sighs. I'm on vacation and my body knows it. I feel it deep down. I may blog, I may not, especially once Fest gets going, but I don't have to do anything I don't want to do.

I've noticed that many people found the declaration by an Iraqi quoted in the New York Times a few weeks ago to be a great slogan for western values of freedom and the pursuit of happiness.
I prefer my spelling, in the title above, to the more typical "Whiskey" spelling. Why? Because it echoes the endings of the other two words. Both spelling of whisky are acceptable, by the way, although they've tended to be used to refer to different variations (Scotch and Irish) of the liquor that was once spelled something like uisghea.

Six Log: Six Apart milestones
Six Apart announces TypePad Personal Publishing service
Six Apart announces new Weblogging service, investment, executives and board
Six Apart names Anil Dash as Vice President of business development
I'd call this another shoe dropping after the Google/Pyra breakthrough earlier this year.

MT has long been ascendant among the technogeek crowd, but prohibitively difficult to install and host for non-websavvy newbies. It appears that this new application/service will enable many of the most popular current blogging wishlist items in a user-friendly format that will not require knowledge of HTML, let alone perl, CGI, hosting or web server management.
From Ben Hammersley's article in the Guardian:
Technically, Typepad has embraced all the new things that have appeared or been requested in the blogging world in the past year. There is a built-in photo album creation tool, for instance, as well as a built-in Blogroll - a list of all your favourite sites, or lists of books and music you are reading and listening to.
The standout feature is the template maker. Users can design their blog without knowing, or seeing, any HTML code whatsoever and with a very great range of control.
Joi Ito's Neotony venture capital firm is backing this rollout and it appears that Anil Dash is on board as a marketing lead.
