Seyed Razavi announces that he is closing down BlogShares, since the effort to maintain it became unsustainable.
So you can take the "listed on BlogShares" badge off your weblog any time now.

This really seemed to have the makings of a small business. I'm surprised.
What was the business model?
Advertising plus premium memberships to gain additional functionality. Obviously not something that would support a staff but once the infrastructure reached a certain point it seemed pretty clear, to me at least, that it could be a nice income source for one guy. Sort of in the same fashion as Kuro5hin proved to be for Rusty. Wouldn't want to quit the day job but it could pay for itself and extra spending money. Obviously it took too long and was too draining to get to that point for Seyed. That's too bad.
