New banners

The only horizontal logo, done after the cover of a book about Futurismo

These are the horizontal variations on the early tries that filchy asked for. I also tried it with a different image. I kept to the font because ... well I like it. I don't have a problem with the S. But, can try it with another one. Just give me an actual name for the font (I have hundreds and it's hard to pick one out).

Following the Futurist, 1920's trend, 3 experiments with different kinds of font. The color can be changed:

This is a complete departure from the original intent. I actually think of RFB as a place, a country. So in keeping with that idea, I came with the following. They are the same image but with different levels of compression & dithering:

I was looking for an image that would echo the banner that XIAN pointed out at Blogorrhea and I found this one at, of all places, potatoland. This was a wall somewhere here in the East Village, about 8 years ago.

If in doubt, then let's go with a transitional style. I actually have been thinking on playing with style switchers. I think I found one I can make with JS, no PHP. So we can go with something like this and as y'all decide what you like we can add it through a style-switcher.

OK, now talk amongst yourselves.

wow, so much to choose from. i kinda don't like the horizontal one. i like the southwest-looking logo to the left of the futurismo one you did before. i kinda don't like the pc icon, because i think it's kinda overused.

the one with the thunderbird is sorta neat.

the sign is a cool idea, except i think of "blogistan" as the place, so maybe it should say "entering blogistan" but then that's not the name of the site. hmmm.

the graffiti one is actually pretty cool.

and i like the one with the overlays too.

so many choices!

at some point it may also make sense to try the logos out in context along with the new page layout, and see what works best that way?

I like all of them. It would be cool to see each of them in place like you did with the last one. I really like the last one as well. It reminds me of driving late at night and having RFB barely discernible on the AM band with lots of static and fading in and out on the edge of civilization.

btw I don't have a problem with the S either. I just don't think it will be useful shrunk down to the size of a button.
