Launching services

Kinja has launched and turns out to be a very sweet tool for aggregating content. At this point it seems as though it would make a good addition to an existing toolset like Technorati. I'm not sure I understand how Kinja will ultimately distinguish itself from other such services. This will be interesting to watch develop.

Today Google has released notification of an upcoming free email service called Gmail. Our own Andrew Bayer declares this to be clearly an April Fool's joke. But I'm not so sure. It sure sounds good.

UPDATE GoogleWatch has some very important information about GMail, cookies, & your privacy. I suggest you read it.

It's a hoax. I'm still very, very sure of it. I'm even more sure of it after reading this obviously made up news story about Google buying Acxiom, the data mining company, so that they can datamine in Gmail.

Google has nothing to really gain by adding email, and a lot to lose: cost for hardware and storage, policing content (1 gig of email space? Can you say warez and MP3s up the wazoo?), pissing off every other free email provider, etc... It doesn't make any sense, it's too good to be true, and it's being announced on April Fools Day. It's a hoax.
