A vote for Kerry is a vote for Teresa Heinz

It's unbeliveable to me that at CNN they're complaining that the Democrats still don't have a clear vision. WHAT!? They spent all their attention to Barak but obviously not on TERESA.

Teresa [teh-REH-za] Heinz just proved to us why we should vote for her.

Yes, contrary to the pundits on CNN and PBS, Barak Obama was not *the star* tonight. It was Teresa. And it goes to show how hypocritical, misoginist and patriarchal not just the media but this country still is. Case in point : Heinz just finished speaking and at CNN they are still talking about Obama.

Unfuckingbelievable.

At PBS a talking-head whined about how she did not give people stories about Kerry because "that's what we want to hear". Well, sorry, no, that is not what we want to hear. We want to hear the woman that (allegedly) sleeps every night with the future President. I want to know where she stands in the issues. I want her to speak her mind. Why? I want to know not just who is the President's wife but who is his life partner. I want to know what does the woman he makes love to (allegedly), thinks of and can speak of during their end-of-the-day pillow talk.

Politics have changed. Where is Laura? Nobody knows. Bush's relationship with his wife, and in turn, her visibility to the world, is as occluse and secretive as his administration. Parallel her invisibility as a partner and equal to Bush's role as a President vis-a-vis Cheney; then you'll understand what I mean.

Teresa Heinz is the perfect anti-Laura and, gasp! Hillary. Why? Because she is powerful without looking strident. She is sexy and wears her femininity comfortably as a source of strenght. She is sincerely funny ... better yet, witty. And many of the pundits that have dismissed her --as she so said herself in her speech-- could not but remark that she will be the "sexiest" First Lady ever to "grace" the White House. Now she is not just opinionated and a loose canon but sexy as well.

Fear the woman. Hear her roar.

Best Teresisms of the night:

WOMYN POWER WITHOUT THE BULL-HORN
... the right to have an opinion ... is a right I deeply and profoundly cherish ... I look to the day women earn their right to be opinionated, and instead be called smart and well informed just like men ... it is time for the world to hear women's voices in full and at last

SEND IN THE PEACE CORPS INSTEAD OF THE CORPS
... heart ... creativity ... generosity ... competence. That is what America represented ... a symbol of hope.

WE WILL SPEND MONEY ON NASA, THANK YOU VERY MUCH
... we sent a man to the moon ... Galileo [GAH-LEE-LE-OH] ... Cassini ... Hubble ... to reclaim the American that showed what could happen when you believed in possibility

INTERTWINGULATING THE ENVIRONMENT, WAR AND ECONOMICS
No boy or girl will go to war because of our dependence on foreign oil ... Good environmental policy is good economics.

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART [OF THE CONSTITUTION] IS
... our most valuable assets, our families ... give parents more opportunities to be with their children ... to have a fulll family life .... to have protection without sacrificing our civil liberties

HERE IS YOUR SOUND-BITE OF THE NIGHT BABY

AND THE LAST ONE, TO ALL THE NEO-MARXIST LEFTISTS IN THE HOUSE
The true patriots are those who speak Truth to Power.

The woman was amazing, spectacular, and truly inspired.

A vote for Kerry is a vote for Teresa Heinz.

Remember that on November 2, 2004.

The idiots at CNN demonstrate why bloggers HAVE TO blog the conventions. Teresa Heinz has articulated beautifully the message of the Democratic Party. They insist that there is no message at all ---and all their attention has fallen on one guy, Barak Obama. Isn't that special? When you have to choose between an African man and an African woman, who do you go with? But of course, the man.

Hypocrites.

It pisses me even more so given that there is not one credentialed black or latino woman blogger at the convention.

Reporting live from Sofa Central, this is Liza Sabater.

Back to you Christian.

Jesse Taylor at Pandagon is credentialed.

I think Afro-Netizen's Christopher Rabb is credentialed, too.

Posted by: George at July 27, 2004 11:46 PM

... and since they're both men, neither serve as a response to your question. All apologies. *resolves to think more often while commenting*

True... but they aren't women.

Both Christopher and Jesse are very cool in person (no big surprise there, I know).

There are at least 6 women and a number of minorities. I'm half-Brazilian so I guess I count as Hispanic.

Posted by: Ezra at July 28, 2004 6:03 AM

Are the six women / # of minorities mutually exclusive; meaning, are there any credentialed black or latino women bloggers at the convention; blogging from inside the stadium.

If there are, can someone please make a list? Actually, make that a whole list of black, latino and other ethnic minority bloggers. I especially want to know of the east coasters --I want to bring people to NYC for reading events I am coordinating in the fall and next year.

Some bloggers have decided to use the 'advantage' of the race/gender/ethnicity neutrality that web anonymity can bring. Unfortunately, people immediately assume the anonymous blogger is of the melanin-challenged persuasion and of the mythical Euro-centric US cultural mainstream.

Bogus.

To paraphrase Teresa, I look to the day when Latino, Negro, Asian and all minority women earn their right to be opinionated, and instead be called smart and well informed just like men ... it is time for the world to hear all our different voices in full and at last.

The only way to do this is to stand up, speak up with our head held up high. If we don't show diversity there will be none in the blogosphere ---I have not trolled the sites right now but I bet you that everybody is falling over Obama.

I bet also that the socio-political significance of having Teresa Heinz as the first lady of this country is going over everybody's head. Why? Because she's "the wife" and, well, we know wives have no impact on their husband's future, right?

Just having a couple of black and latino guys is not diversity. You need the women there as well.

BTW:
Feel free to mock the mini-speech there. I tend to channel Jesse Jackson when I get all NAACP and what not.

Posted by: liza at July 28, 2004 11:17 AM

If you're going to play race- and gender-politics, get the gender right. That would be a a "Latina" blogger, not "Latino woman" blogger, unless you're talking about a transvestite. Sheesh. (And, no, I'm not a conservative troll; I'll vote for Kerry and think Teresa's great.)

Latino is in English.
Latina is in Spanish.
Pick your poison.

update:
While we're at it, THIS IS WHAT UNBIASED WRITING IS ALL ABOUT. Just because I liked Obama and am voting red does not mean that I have to grin and bear it. They're still have to be reminded of their ugly "little" secrets.

Posted by: liza at July 28, 2004 1:47 PM

One point aside from the blogger demographics: I don't know how the speeches played on TV but Teresa's voice was hard to hear at times over the din, and her speech was measured and erudite. Obama, on the other hand, brought the hall to a fever pitch with his rhetoric.

One the T ride toward home (I'll try to post the pictures at POM) after a moment, all the delegates on the train started gushing about Obama and trading superlatives.

It may be hype but it's not unfounded hype, and no one saw it as a competition between Obama and Heinz Kerry.

Tereza or Teresa or however you pronounce her name is one of the biggest fucking morons to ever hit hte political scene. I mean what dead brain depository did John Heinz pick this dimwit up from and was he only charge half price? Goddamn, I sure hope so because this dingy damn bitch can't even remember what she said five minutes ago.

And what the flying fuck is a Continental African!?!? "African Americans" have enough problems, now they have to adapt to yet another stupid fucking label placed on them by rich white liberal skanks.

You want to vote for a piece of shit like this be my guess but I wouldn't fuck her much less vote for this airheaded whore if she was the last woman in the universe

I wanted to let you all know about a new petition website we just started. We're trying to build it up as much as possible to let the press know how many working people like us are against George W. Bush. I hope you stop by www.peopleagainstw.org and give us some feedback. thanks!

You little people are such fools. That is why you refuse to bow when I speak. You will get yours, you idiots. John & I know what is best for you peasants even though you do not. We long so for the good days, the European days of elegance when royality was respected. Ants!!! Insects!!! Middle class riff-raff. You make fun of us because we do not pay taxes on my $3.2 billion in assets. You make fun of us because we pay the bare minimum of 0.983% in taxes on my $80M/yr income while I support a 30% tax on any family earning over $100,000. You ignorant scum. I suport the outsourcing of all the Heinz manufacturing plants and their thousands of jobs so that my income will grow even more while my husband tells you about all the bad outsourcing plotted by evil US corporations. Worship me and my waned beauty or I'll get you my pretty, and your little dog too!

OK, let me get this straight. Class resentment and hatred of the wealthy and powerful is a good reason to vote for the Republicans?

Heh.
