Shout out to the aggregators or How did I blog not from the convention?

I started the day with a false yet funny alarm from Opinions You Should Have

Although Kerry immediately realized his mistake and tried to "take back" his acceptance, a member of the Rules Committee informed him that there were "absolutely no take-backsies."

How did I get there? Without Technorati: politics.technorati.com, politics.feedster.com :: The Official DNC Bloggers, and DNC 2004 Weblogs: News Aggregator, I would have had a hard time following all the blogs.

Unfortunately to many, Xian's mad blogging at The Power of Many, Edgewise; our collaborative effort here at Radio Free Blogistan; as well as my own efforts at culturekitchen, had been absent from all of them until yesterday. I spent part of Tuesday and Wednesday chasing down email addresses for the aggregators and exchanging emails with their keepers. All's well that ends well.

Kudos and a big shout out to Dave Sifry who personally answered, within a few hours, my request to add the blogs to the Technorati: politics.technorati.com aggregator. Thanks also to Dave Winer[*] --I got hot and bothered over Conventionbloggers.com's lack of an email or comment form to handle omissions. Feedster is still missing in action, but I am sure they will be correcting these omissions soon --it's just been a crazy week. A last shout out to Eric Schnure and Brad Johnson of bostonDparty - 2004 Democratic National Convention Blog for adding us to their blogroll.

The moral of the story?

The technology of blogs-as-publishing-tools is fully mature. The technology of blogs-as-networking-and-affinity-tools is still in its infancy. Blogs won't get added to blogrolls unless you ask. In other words, good old fashioned hand-shaking and querying is still needed to make blogs work as networking tools. Still, it will be exciting to hear what insights, especially software developers, will get out of all this conventioneering. I am sure that new plug-ins and tools will be developed out of all this mad blogging.

UPDATE:
Edgewise and Power Of Many have been added to Conventionbloggers.com. Radio Free Blogistan is still missing in action.

At Feedster we made the [relatively arbitrary] decision to re-do our politics.feedster page based on the "Official" DNC bloggers who were given press credentials. We wrestled a lot with being more inclusive on that page but did not do so. One of the reasons is that the NYT was pointing at us intermittently as a digest of the "official DNC bloggers" and wanted to support that editorial decision on their end.

We're figuring out how to improve what we do for the RNC in a few weeks. Any input would be appreciated.

See you at Blogher!: I won't be there this evening for any pre-schmoozing, but I will be driving down to San Jose bright and early tomorrow a.m. to take in the splendor that will be Blogher. I'll bring the camera and try to post some shots during the day or soon afterward.... (Event blogging)

Migrating from LiveJournal to Movable Type: Having migrated a weblog (this one) from Radio to Movable Type and another from Blogger Pro to Movable Type, my next migration project has been to get my old bodega weblog migrated over from LiveJournal to Movable Type, and imported into my X-POLLEN blog. The definitive resource for LJ to MT... (Migration)
Beyond title, link, description: Jake Ludington's been posting some thoughts about RSS in his weblog, since Gnomedex just ended and RSS was in the air there. He questions whether RSS is "all that", allowing that "RSS (or something like it) is permanently changing the way online publishers deliver content," but pointing out that "RSS isn't... (Syndication)
Update on Pie: Mark's still calling it Atom. Some people are still calling it Necho. Whatever you call it, Mark Pilgrim has an update on the project to define a vendor-neutral API, archiving, and feed format for weblogs, and a pointer to the API-in-progress and some sample feeds. LiveJournal Appendix: I keep thinking of unique things about LiveJournal. For example, comments to an LJ blog can be set to automatically trigger an e-mail alert (or not, it's a preference). I love this feature. Radio should offer something similar. LJ has a profile feature in which you can specify interests. This is... (Weblog Concepts)

A Couple-Three More Interesting Referers Today: One person each came by from My just-created profile at Ryze.org A google search for "blogistan"* A google search for "live journal templates" * After blogrolling, blogistan might be a good one to talk about. Today I found a blog that entitled one of its entries Radio Free Blogistan just about... (Weblog Concepts)
Using Radio with Blogger: You can mirror a Radio blog to a Blogger blog (one-way only). Here's an interesting little discussion from my comments about this: Comments in response to this post: Hi there I started blogging with blogger on blogspot.com and still have 2 weblogs there which are fed via categories from one weblog... Blogger vs. Radio: Well, I've slacked on posting this info in a timely manner, partly out of fear of overlooking some key Blogger feature and getting jumped on. I'm also trying to be organized and systematic about this but only partially succeeding. It's nice to get a conversation started and bring out further details... (Weblog Concepts)
Fixed the Junk Mail Archives: As slick as Blogger's interface is, it can still confuse me at times, with the multiple path listings and the model for archiving. I've finally got the archive links working in my Media Junk Mail blog (and I've changed the url to get rid of the .html extension, but really as... (Weblog Concepts)
Lieberman Had his Chance: Joe Conason says Gore should run if only to preempt Lieberman, saying he added very little to the ticket in 2000. I'd tend to agree. Building Link Taxonomies: Say, does Radio offer any link management features? I realize that the blog model says that only the latest or most-linked-to sites are of interest, but it seems that categorizing these links (beyond simply the category/channels built into Radio) might be worthwhile. For one thing, I could tell if I had... (Best Practices)

Homework for Radio vs. Blogger Matchup: AppSwitching Diary at LooselyCoupled.com discusses the decision one publisher made between Radio and Blogger for his site. The writer, Phil Wainewright, opted for Blogger but doesn't make a very strong argument for it, discussing customizable templates, something both services feature. He does cite this difference: Radio requires installation on my local... (Weblog Concepts)
This Morning's Referer Logs (and Coffee): Found some interesting links in my referer logs this morning (I keep wanting to spell it referrer, not sure why). Testing the Manila-Blogger Bridge: Posting this should create a mirror of this site (at http://memewatch.com/blogistan/). Hmm, it doesn't pick up the backlog (the 'klog).
